As I understood, ALA (Autorskie Liceum Artystyczne i Akademickie) is an alternative art school in Częstochowa, with an individualized learning plan for each and every student. But I would like to find out more about it, how did it develop? Who had the idea in the very beginning?

Piotr: The author of ALA schools is Mariusz Budzyński. I send you link to website about history of ALA (in polish).

How is this school different from the others? Why should one choose it? How is it helping people?

Piotr: There are many differences. First, there is a tutor who works with one student. Each student peaks his/her tutor. There are many art classes to choose from. (nr: computer graphics, design and art, ceramics, graphic art, animation, stop motion, photography, theatre, video, voice, drums, keyboards, guitar etc.) There is no „F” grade because we don’t agree on ignorance. A student studies as long as he/she will pass. Useful link.

What is your role there, what do you do exactly?

Piotr: I’m a teacher (creative writing, basic acting skills, movie making), a tutor and I prepare all the cultural events in school and outside of it (with pupils form ALA). I work there since 2006. Now it’s my only workplace.

What is the feedback that you get from students?

Piotr: They told us that they learn how to be responsible and how to decide on their own.

They are glad that they can work with artists (art-teachers are active artists).

They say ALA prepares them to be adults.

Who can come to study in this special school? Is there an age limit?

Piotr: If you finished gymansium – secondary school you can study in ALA. There is an interview about expectations (with pupil, then parents, and with pupil and parents together). ALA isn’t a school for adults – that’s the only age limit.

How many people are studying there in a year? Is the request big?

Piotr: Now there are about 60 students. The number will be specified in September.

I didn’t ask you, but you’d like to tell me that…

We train teachers from public schools how to use tutoring-system in their schools. We haven’t tried to train teachers from abroad, but it’s an interesting challenge. If you cooperate with schools that might be interested, just send me a massage.

Aşadar, CROS, ce părere aveţi? La un moment dat am putea organiza ceva împreună cu omuleţii aceştia din Częstochowa, nu? 🙂
